move their feet. I remember first doing this when I watched my friend Dawn Smith (Juilliard baller) play Viola, and she would rise on her tippy toes the more intense the piece got. It was so intriguing watching her feet move up and down to the melody. Another feet mover is Andrew Bird, who exposes his striped socks for the audience.  He rises up and down on the ball of his feet during violin solos and when he’s singing a pretty slow part of his songs.

I just saw Josh Radin (I know, I’m a girl) and he had the wierdest feet movement. He was drinking whiskey after all, but that is no excuse for off-beat foot tapping! I was trying to figure out his system of moving his feet, and I failed. Still, he sang his heart out and occasionally used his shoes as a whispering drum to his acoustic songs.

Be on the look out for more feet-tapping musicians.
